School bus camera placement is generally for capturing events that may be occurring inside the bus between passengers or the driver, and those outside the school bus door and stairwell area.
For example, the standard placement for the low-cost, affordable school bus cameras, as we have installed over the last three decades, was generally uniform:
Camera 1 is located at the top of the front bus headliner, looking back at the children to capture their faces as they sit and exit the bus.
Camera 2 is located on the ceiling at the rear of the bus, looking down and forward, showing the backs of the seats in the rear three rows.
Camera 3 was to cover the driver's left shoulder on the headliner, looking over the driver to show their hands, the stairwell, and areas outside the stairwell door.
Camera 4 was located in the center of the bus and is usually a Birdseye camera, which looks in 360 degrees from the top down to see what is going on behind the high-back seats in the middle of the bus.
